Kate's Washington DC Review
July 2, 1998
My mom and I left for the Nissan Pavillion at about 2:30. We got there at
four, cuz my mom got a little lost. The guy said that we had to turn around
because the parking lots didn't open til 5. But with my mom's handy
handicapped sticker, we got to the handicapped parking lot at 4:30 (We kept
telling the guys working the parking lots that the guy before said we could
get to our space. Sneaky!). And it was RIGHT at the entrance! I mean right
there!!! Well, we got in, I looked around amazed. My mom and I got in line to
get some of the merchandise. We spent $62 on a navy shirt, a program (You can
see Ike holding Zoe!! Too cute!), stickers, and that huge huge poster. While
we were on line, though, we saw a big blue bus go by. Not like one of those
Greyhound busses or anything, but a bus painted blue. Everyone thought it was
Hanson, so we all ran after it including me. (I'm still not sure if it was a
decoy and they got there earlier......or it was Admiral Twin).
After we got our
stuff and walked back to the car, we walked back, into the shade. There I met
this girl Mary and her sister, whos name I've totally forgotten. They had been
there since 10 that morning! We talked and everything until they got in line
to get in. While we were waiting, we saw Diana!!!! I got 2 half way decent pix
of her. She was like, 5 feet from us! Her hair isn't past her butt anymore,
but itz almost there, and it was crimped. Everyone was screaming at her. LoL
(Actually, the girls would scream at anything. At one point, a bit b4 they
opened the gates, they all started screaming like they saw Hanson 10 feet away
from them (They didn't of course). It was kinda scary though, cuz everyone was
going nuts. My mom was really scared that some one would get hurt.)
Finally they started letting people in at 6:15, even though gates weren't
supposed to open til 6:30. People started rusing in. And I mean RUSHING. The
people over in the shade with my mom and I stayed back for about an hour
because we had reserved seats and over an hour til the show. When we finally
got in (Cameras in pockets) we walked to our seats. I was freaking out totally
because I saw how good our seats were. About 100 feet from the stage,
literally. And about 10 feet from one of the huge huge screens.
At about 8,
Admiral Twin came on. They're actually really good. I thought it was kinda
weird that Jarred (The drummer, who gave Mary an autograph!!) was the lead
singer. Oh well. They were on til 8:30. I felt kinda bad for them though,
because when they said they were gonna play one more song, everyone groaned!
Finally at 9, Hanson came on. Naturally they started with Gimme Some Lovin',
and everyone went NUTS. Thankfully there were four empty seats next to us
(??!!!???), so my mom could move down and I could wave my arms like crazy
w/out hitting her (I did twice, though! LoL!).
I couldn't really tell much,
but Taylor had on a white shirt (Later changed into a black one) w/ red pants,
Ike had on a white shirt underneath a green one (I think) and Zac had on a
camoflauge shirt (Green, and mine was blue!!). After Gimme Some Lovin' they
played Thinking of You, and after that Tay said how it was great to be in DC
and everything, even though we were in VA. (My theory: If Hansonline said they
were gonna be in VA, too many people would be pissed that they were going to a
small town in VA but not going to NY. But I don't think there are places to
play a concert in DC....oh well). Then Ike was saying that they had a new album
out called 3CG and stuff, and they played River. After that, I don't really
remember much except that Tay played the drums on one song and Zac ran around
on stage, in the beginning Zac threw silly string to everyone and I saved
some, during Summertime Blues, the second to last song, Taylor went away from
his keyboards and held his mic to the crowd and told us to yell "There ain't
no cure for the summertime blues!" I have absolutly no idea if they played an
unrecorded song, cuz the two other songs not on MoN, 3CG or Boomerang they
played besides Good Lovin' and Summertime Blues were NOT audible! You could
barely hear anything the screaming was so loud.
A few times during the
concert, you could see Walker w/ his videocamera taping them. He was wearing a
red jumpsiut (?). He went behind my section, and before the concert, he was a
few rows a head of me taping the girls. But I couldn't get a pic or anything
like that, or get on the tape. Alright, here's a list of the songs they
played, in no particular order:
Regular set (10 Spot set, four towers, lotsa lights, ect)
- Gimme Some Lovin'
- TOY
- River
- WTL
- Sometimes (AWSOME song live!)
- Weird
- Speechless
- Two covers -- Good Lovin', Summertime Blues
- IWC2U
- Minute W/out You
- MFM
- MMMBop
- Look At You
Acoustic:
- Madeline (Bonus!!)
- WYIYD
- Soldier
- Stories
- More Than Anything (Ohmigod.....my new fave song..........)
21 songs! Not bad! Hehe........I was kinda annoyed that they didn't do Weird
Acapella, but hey!!! I'm sooooooo glad I went!! The only other thing is is
that there wefre people from Kentucky, NY, and like, all over the place! And
my dad saw a quick clip from the concert (acoustic he said) on the news that
nite. We didn't get home til about 12:30 cuz it took us about an hour and a
half to get out onto the road. :-)
