Back to the Albertane Tour Reviews
Tracey's Washington DC Review
July 2, 1998
So,...here I am sitting in my dad's study room listening to
"Weird" on the cd-rom and staring at the chipped orange and silver nail
polish on my finger nails. Today is July 6th. Could it be that the
Hanson concert I attended was a mere 4 days ago? Well, first off I want
to say that I'm turning 17 on July 18th (Note: Hanson will be performing
in DENVER! My friend Britt Hyden is attending this concert!). So,
unlike most Hanson fans,...I'm not exactly the screaming "teeny-bopper"
type! I am mature about being a Hanson fan and I like Hanson for their
MUSIC,...although they DO look hot!
May 30th,...the day the Hanson tickets went on sale. A very
exciting day for me! Unfortunately, my mom was on the phone for FOUR
hours and all that we got was lawn seats,...but am I complaining,...NO!
I am even LUCKY that I GOT Hanson tickets! Days started flying beforemy
eyes,...and before I knew it,...my best friend Sarah Trageser was overmy
house on Wednesday night (July 1st) for a sleepover to prepare for the
concert the next day. We had made a BIG sign that read "We Like Ike."
Note that it DIDN'T say "We LOVE Ike",...cuz how can we love somebody
we've never met,...and also the fact that Sarah and I both have
boyfriends! (Mine just looks like an Ike clone! hehehe) Surfing the net
for Hanson pages late that night, I decided that I wanted Sarah to braid
my hair,... like no other than,... Zac Hanson! So, after having my mom
tell us to go to bed at 4:30 in the morning my hair was partially braided
and I was too excited to go to sleep (Sarah was the same way). My dad
had told me on Wednesday night that he would be home at 5pm to take us to
the concert! Well,...just a TAD little problem here! The concert
started at 8pm and it would take us a good hour and a half to get to the
Nissan Pavilion! Well, after waking up at 11:30 Thursday morning,..a lot
had to be accomplished! After making numerous gifts for Hanson (which we
never even got to give to them!) and making sure that we had our signs
(Yes,..4 all together!) we were ready to go! Well, we had to clean up the
house and try to hide the cameras (4 in all that we were taking!) and
stuff about 3 tons of gifts in our Jansport book bags! My dad pulled
into the garage at 3:45pm! WOW! I guess he was just saying 5pm to turn
me into a worry wart! We had everything packed and ready to go (except
we took a quick bathroom break cuz there was NO way we were going to miss
a MINUTE of the Hanson concert just cuz nature was calling!). We went
outside and took like 4-5 pictures of me and Sarah holding up our signs
(which I have yet to develop!), so by the time we pulled out of our
driveway,..it was about 4:15 pm! (Not too bad!)
So, we were going down the road (Sarah is finishing
braiding my hair!)
and I remember that there is a sign that says "26 -> Taylorsville,
Eldersburg." Now, I'm not really a big Taylor fan (sorry, Tay!) but I
thought that it would be cool to take a picture of that. Ok,...so that
was done and then we stopped to get gas for our long journey. We were
listening to "3 Car Garage" on our way to the concert and after a pit
stop to "Weis" supermarket,...we were on our way! Sarah finally got my
hair done and the next thing I know,..I hear my dad mumble "I think I
took a wrong exit!" "Oh my god,..
PLEASE don't let that be true!" I was praying to myself. Well, it WAS
true and luckily we were only like 5-10 minutes off course! Well, we got
to the pavilion and me and Sarah just started jumping for joy! After the
oh-so-enthusiastic teens that were guiding cars in the parking lot area
showed us where to park, me and Sarah and my dad were ready to hear
Hanson play! Just a little problem,..while we were walking up to the
gates,...we realize that ppl were turning around and going back to their
cars. "Cool,..maybe we'll have the pavilion all to ourselves!" I
thought silently. My dad however stopped a Nissan Pavilion security
guard riding in a cart and asked him if we could take food into the
pavilion. "No!" was his reply. Well, my dad took this opportunity to
walk like a snail back to the car and told us to "stay right there!" A
mere 10-15 feet from the gate! The pain was killing me! Slowly,...I
noticed that all these KIDS were walking with their parents in Hanson
t-shirts. I'm not kidding! I mean, they had to be anywhere in the 6-10
yr old range! Even parents were wearing the t-shirts along with the kid
guys! Posters of all shapes and sizes with Hanson faces and sayings were
being carried by these fans. Luckily, there were 13 yr olds that we saw!
So,...am I the only one that thinks that Sarah and I were the only 2 17
yr olds there? Maybe! After my dad slowly made his way back to us, we
were ready to charge through the gates. "What will they do about
checking our bags?" I asked my dad while he was handing me my ticket.
He just motioned me to show my ticket to the ticket holder,...and what do
you know? The ticket holder just told me that I was to go to the right
side of the pavilion and to have a good day. Confusing? I thought that
they would check for cameras (which I had neatly stuffed in my purse and
wrapped them in paper towels to look like pads). Well, that was FINE
with me! :0) So, we go up the stairs (Note that Sarah drank too much
soda loaded with caffiene in the car and ran up the stairs 2 at a time
while I was panting for my breath),...and WOW! The view was AWESOME! My
dad found us a good spot and we set down our blanket. I had seen a stand
for Hanson merchandise,...(which I had luckily brought $115 with me!) and
I saw a girl in front of me looking at a Hanson program. "So, they do
have programs!" I said to myself. I went up to her and asked her where
she got it and she kindly told me that she got it from a person that was
selling them at a table next to the lawn chair rental. Well, me and
Sarah bolted to the stairs and found our way to the Hanson merchandise booth.
The program was $15. I stood in line for the Hanson merchandise
from which I purchased a keychain: $8, a fake Hanson backstage pass
thingy: $15 and a black Hanson baseball cap which on the front says "The
Albertane Tour" and has the Albertane symbol with "Hanson" on the back
for: $25. Now,..all I can say is that my mom said that she thinks the
Nissan can hold about 20,000 ppl and that's NOT including lawn
seats,...figure out the math and you can realize that off the merchandise
that Hanson is making A LOT of moola!
Well, I just want to say that Sarah and I were wearing Hanson
t-shirts that we had made. Mine on the front in orange said "Absolutely
NO WAY am I a 'Teeny-Bopper!'" Then on the back in blue it said "They're
just 3 normal teenage guys,...why are you screaming?" Then, in the
middle, it has the tv guide picture of them when they were on the couch
in their suits and below it it said "Judge Hanson for their music,...NOT
for thier looks!" So,...you now know how I feel about my feelings of
being a Hanson fan! Well, while I was in line,...Sarah was like
"Tracey,...ppl are staring at your shirt and talking about it!" and I
was like "Really? What are they saying?" and she said "Oh,..they're
just reading it, but one girl said 'You know what,..
she's right!" LOL! That is SO funny! I don't get why some fans would
like scream if they met Hanson. I mean, do you go up to a complete
stranger and say "Oh my god!" and start hyperventilating? NO! Why?
Becuz,...itz just stupid! So,..why do those ppl think Hanson is
different from everyone else? *Shrug,...I dunno!* Well, I'm ranting
about nothing so back to the story. After we purchased our Hanson
merchandise, we ran back up to the lawn (the time was about 7:45pm) and
we just decided to sit down until the concert started. In no time,
Admiral Twin took the stage and I just want to say that they are an
AWESOME band. I thought it was COMPLETELY RUDE how the teeny-boppers and
other fans were just chanting about Hanson and wanting them to get off
stage. Well, they did a 30 minute show and then they left. Hanson came
on at 9pm and I DID see the vacuum guy! LOL! Well, I saw the big grey
curtain that they had set up for Hanson. Luckily, Sarah's grandad gave
her his binoculars for the show and I could see how they were setting up
the stage. I'm not going to go into detail about how the show went cuz
I'm writing too much already! Newaz, the concert ROCKED! I was really
amazed at how they sang "With You In Your Dreams." Now, if only the
stupid teeny-boppers would have shut-up when they started out I would've
been a happy camper. BUT NOOOOOO! Girls,...do me a favor and when
Hanson is singing QUIT SCREAMING! Goodness,...I mean I payed $23 for a
lawn seat to HEAR Hanson,...not some stupid teeny-boppers! I'm just
going to list some highlights and some things I didn't like.
Highlights:
- The curtain dropping to announce that Hanson was on stage. A
GREAT effect that made the crowd go WILD!
- The HUMUNGOUS screens! Thank goodness,..or else I would've
been mad that I wouldn't see Hanson from a far distance
- Taylor dedicating "Where's The Love" to the ppl on the lawn! Awwww!
How sweet!
- The scene changes,...WOW! I took a few pics of the stage
(although itz a bit blury) and I was amazed at how much creativity they
had for the way the stage was to look.
- "MORE THAN ANYTHING!" Sung by Isaac. WOW! That boy has
TALENT! I wanted to cry when I heard that song! Sarah and I had BIG
grins during that song!
- "WEIRD!" My FAVE Hanson song (along with "IWCTU"). I really
like the way they performed it :0)
- "IWCTU" See #6 (Note: A man in front of us about 30 yrs.
old was holding up his LIGHTER and swaying to the music! I have a
picture of him doing that! LOL! He was swaying and bopping along to the
music! He was COOL!)
- "MAN FROM MILWAUKEE!" Another fave! I especially luv the
way it sounds now! It ROCKS! I was so PROUD of Zac when he did his solo
and the way he drummed his heart out for that song!
- Ike's dedication to all the girls named "Madeline!" The
acoustic was played very well and it was a good song to jam to!
- Zac spraying the crowd with the water gun! LOL! Do
these guys know how to get a crowd pysched or what?
- EVERYTHING ABOUT THE CONCERT!
Things I didn't like:
- TEENY-BOPPERS!
- Baby tee Hanson shirts! *Shudder!* Tank tops are bad
enough,..but HANSON BABY TEES?!?!?!?!? I saw 3 girls wearing them! Agh!
- teeny-boppers screaming when Hanson would sing ballads!
PPL,...there's a reason why Hanson sings these songs,...so that you
LISTEN to them!
- No "Weird" a capella :0(
- The concert ending!
Overall, I want to say that I had a BLAST! I will NEVER forget
that day! If you want some more in-depth info about the concert,...feel
