Malaysia's The Star's Review of Live From Albertane

Submitted by Melissa

The feminine screams and shrieks are enough to tell you that it’s Hanson at the end of that cacophony. Labelled a boyband, but crawling out of that rut to earn a stripe or two in the rock world, the three siblings are quite a team.

Linking the Steve Winwood-penned Gimme Some Lovin’ with Shake A Tailfeather makes for a punchy curtain-raiser on this album. The brothers take a while to lock in with one another, but as they slowly do, the trademark harmony moves forward in perfect unison with thebacking music.

On Where’s The Love, guitar-totting Isaac naively attempts a solo spot, falters in the process but still comes out tops with a catchy melody. River’s intro may seem like a "borrowed" effort from The Trogg’s Wild Thing, but this poppy rocker progresses into a full-blown original. I Will Come To You, a ballad, unfortunately exhibits Hanson’s link to the boyband league. It’s sad that the band sometimes become its ownenemy.

Like, any other good Christian boys would, the boys dedicate a song to their grandmother on this superbly-recorded live album. Speaking of great recordings, Live From Albertane may come across suspiciously immaculate. Overdubs in the studio? It’s a little difficult to say. For the music though, Hanson might just be taken a little more seriously if it toned down on the balladry, and this recording is testimony to that.

Check out the "eruption" before and after MMMBop. Even Eddie Van Halen can’t do that!
