Mark & Brian
(Dec 12th, 2001)
*Typed up by VALERIE*
Audio from Hanson's visit in the Music Room

Comments by Valerie -
Right after the show on the 11th, the local deejay (Bob Keller) on my station (KSEG) said: "You know on paper Michael York and Hanson don't work but when you hear it on the Mark & Brian show it all comes together beautifully. What a great show this morning!"

The next day on Mark & Brian during one of the phone in contests they do, they were talking about their "Junk Drawer" (prizes they give out, some good, some duds) and had this to say:

P.S. - the spelling is not type-o's or leaving words out, it's an attempt to show their accents and speach mannerisms )

Mark: We also have, lookie here, number three on the list we have Hanson's guitar pick.

Kelli: Ohhh. [Said as if saying "interesting" or "coool"]

Brian: Found that in the studio yesterday after they left.

Mark: Mmm hmm.

Brian: Came back to get my jacket and it was laying right there - and I believe because the place it was at, it wa- it's- definitely Taylor's.

Mark: Hm.

Brian: The middle one.

Kelli: Oh boy.

Brian: Ya.

Mark: Ya he normally plays keyboard. He even mentioned yesterday "I'm an awful guitar player."

Brian: I didn't think so. I thought he did real well.

Mark: He seemed fine to me.

Brian: The harmonies were amazing yesterday. I wasss, I was uh, duly [Kelli sighs heavily] impressed with those guys. Just their personalities, their . . .

Kelli: Mmm hmm.

Brian: . . . their uh, humor and- and their talent.

Mark: Looking forward to hearing this new uh, record their working on.

Brian: Mmm hmm.

Mark: So-

Kelli: I'm a convert! I have to say.

Brian: Ya.

Kelli: Won me over yesterday.

Brian: Ya.

Mark: Ya.

Kelli: I was a little reluctant.

Mark: Ya, you were, shunning the Hanson, weren't you?

Kelli: I- [laughs]

Brian: Well you know, rock snob - that's understandable, but-

Kelli: Ya . . .

Brian: Ya.

Mark: Ya.

Kelli: . . . I admit -

Mark: For all of you that- that- listen to this program, you know - here we work for a radio station that was classic rock and- most of the people that work here, are snobs of rock and roll. They refuse to even talk about, so- you- you should have been here when we had Barry Manilow on a Christmas show - blasphemy!

Brian: Mmm hmm.

Mark: How dare you! Same thing with Hanson. But apparently, she gave in.

Brian: It took a while for the station to get used to us as their morning show, because we uh, love album rock, but also we love all different kinds of music and it's interesting to have different artists from different genres of music in here. So, we'll have Jose Feliciano, or we'll have, you know Tom Jones, or- or just uh, uh Garth Brooks. We'll have different ar- but- th-this is unheard of-

Mark: And at the same-

Brian: -this was unheard of when we started doing this - because album rock station - you have album rock artists in here.

Mark: Well no. No.

Brian: Plus if we just did that, everyone would be like sixty!

Mark: When we had Bobby Sherman, come down 'do Christmas show -

Brian: Ya! That was fun! That was fer kind of comic rel- and he did great!

Mark: You having who?!

Brian: Mmm hmm.

Mark: So uh, so ya Hanson, Hanson man! Come own.

Kelli: All I knew was mm- MMMBop-

Mark: Ya.

Kelli: -and that- didn't do it for me.

Mark: Ya.

Kelli: But after meeting them and hearing them harmonize and their personalites- and seeing how dedicated they are -

Brian: How 'bout that middle one, Taylor?

Kelli: And that middle one!

Brian: Ya that was . . .

Kelli: He's a beautiful guy!

Brian: It's funny -

Mark: And seeing what an idiot Zac is! [Brian laughs] He was just so fun- my favorite thing he said all day when they were describing I don't think he used - I forget what ss- form of disease, but they were describing the girls that go nuts for them. [Little laugh from Kelli] A-and he just said "Ya - we think they all have it", and he said the disease, I forget what he wha' but . . .

Brian: Ya, he was really funny.

Mark: And Taylor just stares at him when he's talking, not knowing what's about to come out of his little brother's mouth.

Brian: And Isaac just rolls his eyes and just it's like [very dry] "Let's move this along, shall we?"

Kelli: [Laughs] 'Specially Rita - woh!

Mark: Ya she sat in the switchboard room in there and she watched every moment -

Brian: I know!

Mark: - of Hanson here on the show.

Brian: Kelly- Rita and Preva. You all were kinda -

Kelli: Ya.

Brian: - kinda sloppy.

Mark: I think out of, [Kelli laughs long] out of all the girls that were watching the show, the most calm my daughter Amy.

Kelli: She was!

Mark: You- you people . . .

Kelli: She's very composed, yes.

Later on they played some of "Sure About It" as their lead in from commercials and then after some other stuff they took a call:

Brian: . . . Let's go to Megan, good morning Megan how are you?

Megan: Hi I'm okay. Um this is Megan from yesterday, from- from meeting Hanson and all you know?

Brian: Oh you came in the studio- right.

[I know that on the 11th when Hanson was there the two girls in the studio said their names were Sierra and Arwen, so I don't know what's with this "Megan", but this is what I heard on the show the next day.]

Megan: Ya I was the calm one! Not the one screaming [said with a little laugh]. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you guys, so much! My Dad is, uh he had a massive stroke in April, and he's in a nursing home right now, like he's living there?

Brian: Ya.

Megan: And, meeting Hanson just meant- meant so much to me because [choked up] - [said really fast] oh my God I'm gonna cry - okay, because [swallows] - their music has done so much for me, and like I told the guys that- and it was just so awesome meeting them they were so nice, and it was just so cool.

Brian: Well I'm glad you enjoyed it. [Mark says something unintelligible] And- and how's your Dad doin'?

Megan: Um, he's okay we don't know if he's ever gonna come home [moping] though so . . .

Brian: Okay well we'll, we'll wish the best for ya.

Mark: Well it's very cool and you girls were- were reserved and you held yourselves uh, uh in high eya, high ay-esteem. You- you didn't go crazy or nuts offend or, y-you did as you were asked.

Megan: Ya.

Mark: So way to go. [She chuckles] And - so that 'choo all know - there was a gathering of about 30- 25/30 girls out by the- uh gate. Uh- Hanson stopped their car got out, met each one of them- pictures, autograph- did whateh- you know- took care of 'em- all of 'em.

Megan: Ya we were parked right next to them, so we saw -

Mark: Ya, jus-

Megan: Ya th-they were- they were so sweet, they went over and they- signed for them and all that stuff.

Mark: [Chuckles] I think-

Brian: That's very nice.

Mark: I think Zac stayed in the car -

Brian: Mm hmm. [Megan chuckes]

Mark: But ta, [Brian chuckles] the other two . . .

Brian: Thank you Megan, I'm glad you enjoyed it sweety.

Megan: Bye.

Brian: Alright.

Mark: A-and -

Brian: Merry Christmas.

Mark: I-I, you can look, at the three brothers a course Taylor the lead singer he's- he's already a cutie, but- Zzac, you can see that another- what is he, 15 now?

Brian: Fift- wh-

Mark: Eh 'nother couple of years, he's gonna be the striking one.

Brian: Do you know what ta, Rita said about Taylor, the middle one?

Mark: Mm mm.

Brian: She said, "He's just, beautiful. He's just too- he's beautiful."

Mark: Did she?

Brian: Ya.

Mark: [Softly] Did she say that?

Brian: Ya.

Mark: Ya. [Chuckles]

Brian: I mean, eh that's cradle robbin'. What's she- what is she? Is she- is she 40 yet? Rita? I don't think she's 40 yet is she?

Kelli: I don't know.

Brian: I don't know.

Mark: Preva was beside herself. Yesterday.

Brian: Ya.

Mark: Couldn't- get it- together.

Brian: And again, she asked me wha - after we had their- our first break with them we took a commercial break and I went in there just to check on Preva and she goes "Ask Taylor if he's 18!" [Kelli chuckles] I don't- I don't wanna a-uh-a- wha's a- I'm-uh-uh- I'm gonna go up to this kid and go, [deep voice] 'So - you legal?' [Kelli chuckles] Ya-uh-ah I would feel funny! And so she finally did and wha-how- wha'd he say?

Mark: [Aside to Preva] Is he 18? [Can't hear answer]

Brian: He is 18. Okay, alright so . . .

Mark: He's legal.

Brian: [Something unintelligible and then] Uh huh.

Mark: Uh . . . in fact I think if I remember correctly he- reintroduced himself- to Preva.

Brian: Mm 'couple times.

Mark: They met, and then he went back, Taylor did, and goes "I don't think we officially met, I'm Taylor."

Kelli: [Said in two syllables like, wink-wink] Ohh-oohh.

Brian: I saw that, but you saw something I didn't, just because of the angles - he was talking to Preva and his eyes just kept lookin' at her rack.

Mark: Ya.

Kelli: I saw that!

Brian: You did?

Mark: Yes.

Kelli: Ya-hahahahaha!

Preva: [Squeaked] Yess!!

Mark: Well how kin you not?! In defense of the poor boy, how kin you not? Good God, they're slappin' him in the chin! [You can still hear Kelli laughing]

Brian: Ya.

Mark: You're gonna notice . . .

Brian: Mm. [Kelli breathes in and sigh/laughs]

Mark: . . . sumpthin' like that. [Kelli gives one final chuckle] So - Preva - you had to have,

Kelli: Uh huh.

Mark: . . . vibrated, when you left here yesterday.

Preva: [From background] I did. Actually, Rita and I were shocked, because we looked at each other at one point and we said - 'We're grown women.'

Mark: Mm.

Preva: 'What are we doing?'

Mark: Mm.

Brian: Ya.

Preva: 'We're freakin' out.'

Mark: Ya- oh you way! Right before they got here we were on the air - talking about something else and Preva llleaped into the room. Jus- and-and she- she took air, so she could announce to us "They're he-ere!!"

Preva: Okay we've had the huge- some of the biggest rock and roll people here of all - Rita has never come down and sit in the switchboard room,

Mark: Mm.

Preva: - like that.

Brian: That's true!

Preva: The entire show she just ssat there!

Mark: "Well Taylor's just- beautiful"

Preva: Ya [squeaked with a "hee"].

Mark: Well-

Brian: Her words.

Mark: We did talk with the boys, and the new material is gonna be out this summer - they're gonna be out touring. So we've discussed a couple of things, one of them being, uh- when they're- when they've got the new material up and they're- they're on the stage with it, uh maybe doing a key club thing with Hanson where they plug it in and- that'll be a scene. And if that doesn't work out, maybe the Christmas show 'cause Taylor as he walked out did say- "That- we would, love to do that Christmas show thing if we're- you know, in the area." So, we're still workin' on suh-mm with them.
