HANSON DRIVES INTO THEIR SUMMER '98 TOUR & DRIVES INTO THEIR 3 CAR GARAGE!
Between preparing for their upcoming tour and promoting their new CD, 3 Car Garage: The Indie Recordings '95 - '96, Hanson managed to find time for an interview. If you think you're excited about their summer tour, wait 'till you see what they had to say! We also got the Hanson brothers to fess up about plans for their next album, as well as the rumors about a Hanson TV series or a movie. Take it away, Ike, Zac and Tay!
SUPERSTARS: So, what have you guys been up to?
TAYLOR: We're actually releasing some of our independent recordings right now. It's called 3 Car Garage. That's something that's coming out right now with the independent recordings. "Weird" is the most recent single off of Middle of Nowhere and that's out right now and we did a video with Gus Van Sant that's playing on MTV.
ISAAC: We're actually getting ready to go on tour. We're starting very soon, in early June in Europe. That's going to be very cool for us. We're been planning to do that for quite a while and now we're finally getting to go and really play some shows. It's going to be very fun and that's actually what, right now, we're preparing for.
SUPERSTARS: How come it took so long to get a tour going?
TAYLOR: Well, things have definitely been delayed because things kept happening. We're going to start in Europe and go to Paris, London and Germany and then come back to the States. We're very excited about it!
ISAAC: We're really are just very excited about being on tour and doing shows.
SUPERSTARS: How come you decided to go kick your tour in Paris?
TAYLOR: We love Paris, so why not start with Paris? We're very much looking forward to the show in Paris.
SUPERSTARS: Will you be adding any dates to you tour?
TAYLOR: What's going to happen is we're going to go on tour right now and we're just trying to get out and play some shows. Then once we finish the next album, we'll be going on the real world tour and we'll be hitting many more cities and many more countries.
SUPERSTARS: When will that be?
TAYLOR: That's probably going to be the spring of next year once we work on the next album after the tour.
SUPERSTARS: When do you expect to begin work on your next album?
TAYLOR: Well, the tour's just over about two months during the summer and then we can get back into the studio to start on the next album. Definitely!
SUPERSTARS: Can you tell us anything about your new material that you plan to record after this tour?
ZAC: Well, it wouldn't be new if we told you about it! Then it would be stuff we told you about at this press conference and then it wouldn't be new stuff!!
SUPERSTARS: Have you written any new songs yet?
ISAAC: We're constantly coming up with new ideas. They're all just on our ear, with many ideas and songs that we've already written. But for now, they're just thoughts, so we're really looking forward to recording them when that time comes.
TAYLOR: We're very excited about that. We're always writing songs.
SUPERTARS: What can your fans expect from your expanded live show?
ISAAC: Well, the live show is just going to be a lot of fun.
ZAC: One thing they can definitely expect is music!
TAYLOR: Yes, there's definitely going to be plenty of our music at the shows. We're also going to throw in some of old songs that we like from the 50's and 60's.
SUPERSTARS: Covers? Which band?
ISAAC: We're going to be playing some songs from groups like the Spencer Davis Group and The Rascals and different things like that. Some very cool songs that we think everybody will be able to enjoy along with songs from Middle of Nowhere and 3 Car Garage: The Independent Recordings.
SUPERSTARS: Have you thought of adding any dance routines to your shows?
ISAAC & TAYL0R: Noooo!
ZAC: Uugh! [Makes a choking sound and motion, leans way back in his seat and then laughs at himself.]
TAYLOR: No dance routines. We're sticking to our instruments.
ISAAC: That's what we're essentially concentrating on doing - singing and playing.
SUPERSTARS: With the release of 3 Car Garage, is it strange for you to listen to your old songs again?
ZAC: The reason we re-released them -one, was because the fans had wanted the songs and they'd been asking us. But, we wouldn't have released it, if we didn't like it.
ISAAC: We feel really good about the songs. I mean, they are what they are. They're independent recordings, they're nothing glamorous. We didn't spend hours and days on vocals and things like that. We spend four hours a song in our garage with an 8-track recorder, and that's really all that is. We're very proud of it, because it's what we did a while ago. The real reason we're releasing it is because of the amount of letters and requests that we've gotten from fans to release it. So, that's really why we are releasing it. Because of the fans.
SUPERSTARS: We're heard rumors about a Hanson TV series. Is it upcoming?
ISAAC: No TV series.
ZAC: It's definitely a rumor!
SUPERSTARS: What about a movie?
ZAC: That's also definitely a rumor!
ISAAC: What we're really focused on is just the music. We're musicians and that's what we do and what we're going to continue to do. Who knows what may happen in the future. But at this moment that's what we're focused on. You know, the tour, which is coming up, and just the music in general continuing to do that and doing it well.
SUPERSTARS: When you guys are out on the road, what do you miss most about home?
ISAAC: I think if you miss anything from home it's just the relaxation of being somewhere that you feel very comfortable in and that's all you really miss. However, being up on the stage - we feel very comfortable up there because that's where you make your music. There's just such an incredible feeling when the fans are out there enjoying your music and you hit that note and the song stops and everybody claps and screams and stuff like that. It's an amazing experience! We're at home on stage and feel good up there and when we're at home, that's cool too.
SUPERSTARS: What do you do in between rehearsals and shows when you're on the road?
ZAC: Sleep!
TAYLOR: Sleeping is key, yeah.
